That right there. That’s the emotional payoff. Sam Wilson isn’t the black Falcon nor the black Captain America. He is CAPTAIN AMERICA. No caveats or add ons. He has made the title his own and he has created a version of Captain America that is true to his experiences.
Bucky stated in the previous episode that he and Steve never considered what it would mean for a black man to take the shield, and he was right. Steve Rogers had a much simpler relationship with patriotism and America. His position of privilege fostered an uncomplicated loyalty. In The Winter Soldier Steve is blindsided by just how complicated the world has become.
Sam has always lived in a more complicated world. As a black veteran he would have had a much more complicated relationship with his country. I can’t speak to what the experience is, but Sam is able to bring a certain nuance to the role of Captain America that Steve or Bucky never could.
the kindest character in the mcu who right from the beginning has been one of the most empathetic voices that people can’t help but listen to, who can relate to the struggles of those who are ignored or tossed aside in favour for the big battles and players, whose first option is peace and not violence, who sees someone getting hurt and steps in even though he’s been disrespected by that person several times, is genuine and tries to make things right and cares.
sam wilson is everything. he is just sO good. Just the way he was talking to karli and everything. He is a Good Man!! He really cares for everybody and he sees the good in people!
